Something different. Not my work but sharing someone else's work that's heavily inspiring me at the moment. Fernando Vicente. Spanish illustrator. First came across this particular body of work only a couple of years ago in a blog post. I've never really had a favourite artist before until I saw these Dracula illustrations - Dracula is also one of my favourite novels. I instantly fell in love with his work. The painterly style mix with very strong graphic elements and the clever use of shape and negative space, along with some really cool creative ideas. And the tones and shadows just goes so well with the genre. It feels like an old black and white film perfectly captured. This is what I want my art to aspire to. I tried to hunt this book down but didn't have any luck. It's only printed in Spanish. So for a while I gave up ever finding it, and thought I'd just have to settle for his illustrations on my pintrest board. Then one night browsing around I found a copy on book depository of all places. I treated my self (it was hella expensive). I was expecting it to take longer to arrive but it finally arrived today. And it just feels so good to have physical copies of these amazing illustrations. Yes I litterally just bought this book for the pictures. How could I not?
